The art gallery in Parnell is a vibrant space, open seven days a week, attracting around 900 visitors weekly. They faced several security challenges, particularly concerning the safety of valuable art pieces and staff vehicles. Our task was to design and implement a commercial surveillance camera system installation that provided comprehensive coverage and peace of mind to the gallery owners.

The Challenges

To fully understand the gallery's needs, we identified several specific challenges they were facing:

1. External exhibits: Concerns about potential theft or vandalism of outdoor displays, despite being in a walled area.
2. Parking area: Incidents of attempted break-ins into staff cars parked during the day.
3. Internal security: Risks of art pieces being stolen, damaged, or moved around by visitors within the gallery.
4. Smaller third gallery: Ensuring adequate surveillance for larger displays located in the central part of the gallery.

Our Solution

To address these challenges, we implemented a comprehensive coverage CCTV system:

1. 180-degree panoramic camera: Installed on the front wall to provide comprehensive coverage of the external display area and parking lot, capturing all visitors and any suspicious activities.
2. Indoor 180-degree camera: Mounted centrally on a flat wall inside the main gallery to monitor all four corners and the central display area, providing a full view without blind spots.
3. 6-megapixel turret camera: Placed in a corner of the smaller third gallery to focus on larger central art pieces, ensuring complete coverage.
4. Centralised CCTV recorder: A four-channel CCTV recorder connected all cameras, allowing remote access and real-time monitoring for gallery staff on their phones and laptops, both onsite and offsite.
